A solar panel is used to maintain the internal temperature of the wormery, so that there are no large variations in temperature to upset the worms at work.
The Solar Powered system is via a 5-watt solar panel, that feeds into a 7-amp battery. The battery has enough power to operate for up to 2 weeks in the case of poor weather conditions. Excess liquid, which is released from food waste as it is being processed by the composting worms, is collected at the base of the triangular cage, which has a collection tank and filter. If the internal temperature gets too high, the solar panel triggers a sprinkler system across the length of the top of the wormery, and this liquid is re-introduced into the wormery to cool the internal conditions. The collected liquid in the tank can also be pumped out for direct use on gardens and lawns (a very potent plant food). |

signification reduction in cost, and up to a 90% reduction in the volume
of waste being removed from a premises can be made by recycling on-site
with this wormery, i.e. food preparation waste, cooked food waste, lawn
clippings, and other green garden waste, combined with cardboard and plain
paper wastes. Alternatively, it can be used to turn farmyard manure, particularly
horse manure, into reusable compost for the benefit of pastures. |
